England made 286 in their first innings in response to Australia's 371 in Adelaide Test.
England captain Ben Stokes was distraught and had an explosive reaction after he was dismissed by a peach of a delivery by Australia’s Mitchell Starc on day three of the ongoing third Test of Ashes 2025-26 in Adelaide.
England resumed their innings at 213/8 with Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer being the overnight not-out batters. Stokes was the only hitter who held his own against Australian bowling, scoring 83 in 198 balls. Jofra Archer provided superb support, scoring 51 from 105, which would be the difference if England drew the Test.
Stokes and Archer added 106 runs together for the ninth wicket, and it was the former who fell first, early on Day 3. Stokes was clean bowled by Starc by a length ball that stayed low and jagged back in.
Starc’s delivery made Stokes play down the wrong line, and his off-stump was pegged back. After the dismissal, the England captain displayed a never-before-seen level of irritation by jumping in anger.
Stokes, visibly agitated, bent down as the ball missed his bat and then jumped in fury, shaking his head repeatedly and condemning his own dismissal. He was also observed flinging nasty remarks at himself.

Stokes' rage and irritation are understandable. After all, the England skipper has been let down by his teammates in the Ashes 2025 series, with England behind 2-0. To remain in the series, they must win the third Test against Australia in Adelaide.
