Babar Azam made a forgettable BBL debut for Sydney Sixers on Sunday.
Pakistan batter Babar Azam made a forgettable BBL debut for Sydney Sixers on Sunday (December 14), scoring just two runs off five balls before being dismissed by Perth Scorchers pacer Brody Couch.
After taking four balls to open his account with a couple, Babar was dismissed on the penultimate delivery of the third over.
Couch bowled a hard-length delivery, and Babar’s attempted drive over mid-on resulted in a leading edge and the ball went up in the air. Laurie Evans completed an easy catch to send the former Pakistan captain back to the pavilion.
After Babar’s dismissal, the Big Bash League’s official account shared a video of him playing a dot ball on social media with the caption: “Babar Azam’s first ball in the Big Bash is… A dot!”
The post went viral and Babar faced online trolling once again for his dismal show with the bat.
Coming to the match, Perth Scorchers defeated Sydney Sixers by five wickets in a rain-curtailed 11-over per side contest.
Riding on Jack Edwards’s 21-ball 46*, Sixers posted 113/5 on the board. Scorchers overhauled the target in 10.1 overs, with Cooper Connolly (59 off 31) emerging as the top scorer.
