India defeated Pakistan in their first game, but lost the next three games in tournament.
What began as a lighthearted post by India's skipper following their opener victory against Pakistan quickly became ammunition for Shahzad as the tournament progressed.
India began their Hong Kong Sixes campaign by defeating Pakistan by two runs on DLS. Riding high, Dinesh Karthik wrote a cheeky comment on X: "Fun start to Hong Kong sixes. Winning against Pakistan.”
However, this remained the only win for India in this tournament, as they lost to Kuwait, Nepal, and the UAE and crashed out of the tournament.
On the other hand, Pakistan, after losing to India, went on a demolition job in the tournament. They recovered, stormed through the rest of the competition, and advanced to the final, where they defeated a giant-killing Kuwait team.
After putting up a good score, Pakistan's bowlers stifled the chase to secure a 43-run victory and their sixth Hong Kong Sixes title, making them the tournament's most successful team in history.
Once the trophy was secured, Muhammad Shahzad chose his moment. The Pakistan captain echoed Karthik's words but inverted the script, posting photos of the silverware and his ecstatic teammates.
He posted: “Fun end to the Hong Kong sixes. Business as usual.” However, his use of the hashtag “WeHaveARealTrophy” did the rest, as it was a clear dig at India’s poor outing in the tournament after defeating Pakistan.
However, this dig by Pakistan captain Shahzad and his imitation of Hardik Pandya’s celebration with the trophy on the pitch irritated cricket fans on social media. They didn’t hold back on social media and took potshots at the Pakistan team.
