Dinesh Karthik left out Ishan Kishan and Abhishek Sharma who are no. 1 and 2 in ICC T20I rankings.
Virat Kohli, Australian finisher Tim David, and captain Rajat Patidar, who has never played a T20I, were the three RCB stars chosen by Karthik in his list.
One of the startling exclusions from Dinesh Karthik’s list was the current No. 2-ranked T20I batter, Abhishek Sharma. Sharma has 2065 runs in 66 T20Is, with 3 centuries and 14 fifties at a strike rate of 194.26.
He has also made 2379 runs in 92 IPL games, with a strike rate of 171.27, with two centuries and 13 fifties to his name.
In a Cricbuzz video, Karthik was answering a question. He seems to choose his personal preferences above potentially more sensible options, naming only current cricket players.
“Let me start with my favorite, and I think it’s fair to say he’s been the greatest T20 batter of all time now: Virat Kohli. What he’s established over 20 years in international cricket and the IPL—there's nobody even close to him, I feel. So, let’s start with Virat Kohli. That’s a no-brainer there,” Karthik said.
Karthik’s second pick was Harry Brook. He said the England white-ball captain was his ‘number one all-format player’ in the world.
“The third batter would be somebody who I feel has not had enough international time. I think he is probably one of the most talented batters out there. The consistency with which he is churning out runs for RCB, being the captain, the range of shots that he has against pace and spin, and his ability to take a game away within a couple of overs—not seeing too many players with that kind of talent. I’ve enjoyed playing with him, but I’m enjoying even more working with him and having him in my corner: Rajat Patidar. I feel he plays very stylishly as well, which is very eye-catching and fun to watch," Karthik added.
Jos Buttler was the wicketkeeper-batter's fourth choice, praising his consistency and referring to him as "England's best white-ball batter." The most thorough justification for choosing David was provided by Karthik.
“And then I have someone who I’ve really enjoyed watching. But the main reason why I feel he should be there is every batter that I’ve selected is a top-order batter. And I feel, somewhere, having played in the middle order, people sometimes overlook that part. Pure power. He’s scary when he gets going, and he’s won games for most teams that he’s played for around the world. Somebody who has very easy power, long levers, and I feel his potential is a lot more than what he is giving any team that he’s playing for right now: Tim David,” Karthik added.
“Purely because of the consistency with which he can hit pace and spin, I have really been startled at times by the distance that he can hit when he does hit a cricket ball. Quite phenomenal. And as I said, I feel his ceiling is even higher than where he is today," he added.
