Ex-India spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Laxman Sivaramakrishnan have a well-documented history of public friction on social media, marked by sharp criticism, accusations of disrespect, and online jabs.
Sivaramakrishnan launched a scathing tirade against Ashwin on X (formerly Twitter) during the build-up to the 2023 World Cup, calling him a "liability," "unfit," and claiming that any "fool will get wickets on tampered pitches in India".
Ahead of Ashwin's landmark 100th Test appearance in 2024, Sivaramakrishnan publicly accused the legendary off-spinner of "ghosting" him. He that Ashwin cut off his phone calls and ignored text messages sent to congratulate him, adding, "That's the respect we former cricketers get".
On the other hand, Ashwin has frequently used his sharp humor on social media to respond to Sivaramakrishnan's public rants.
He recently took a dig at the former leg-spinner, who suggested India spinner Ravi Bishnoi not to tweak his run up amid struggles of late.
“If Ravi Bishnoi is working on his Run up, he should not be playing matches,” Sivaramakrishnan posted on X.
Ashwin quoted his post and sarcastically wrote: “Fair point! Hope he reaches out to you soon.”
During the T20I series against England in July, Bishnoi had a tough outing in Manchester, conceding 60 runs in four overs and bowling three costly back-foot no-balls.
To fix his run-up, which was drifting away from the stumps rather than heading straight, the young leggie underwent targeted training at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru under the guidance of India’s spin bowling coach Sairaj Bahutule.
The structural adjustments translated into massive improvements during the Zimbabwe tour and the T20I series against Afghanistan in New Delhi. However, Bishnoi once again looked out of rhythm during the Asian Games and was eventually dropped from the squad for the upcoming T20I series in New Zealand.
