Jaiswal and Fernando got into a heated argument after batter was dismissed.
Jurel defended his longtime Rajasthan Royals colleague Jaiswal by claiming that the batter never starts fights and wouldn't have without the insults.
According to Article 2.12 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, Jaiswal and Fernando were both fined 25% of their match fees and given one demerit point each on their records for "inappropriate physical contact."
“When he got out, he was quietly walking towards the dressing room. He didn’t say anything, which you might have noticed in the footage as well. Then he turned around… actually, vo bohot gandi gaaliyan de raha tha shayad (Fernando was perhaps hurling very ugly abuse at him), from what Jaiswal told me. He (Jaiswal) said normal aggression is fine — you took my wicket, you deserve to show it, but you can’t abuse him,” Jurel told Aakash Chopra in a YouTube interview.
Jurel backed Jaiswal when asked about the fiery nature of the Mumbai batter and repeated a now-common line about how no Indian player would ‘remain quiet’ if slugged.
“He won’t start it. I have never seen him start [a fight]; he’s always in his zone when he’s batting. Now, there’s no one in the Indian team who doesn’t give it back. Agar tum karoge toh aisa nahi hai ki hum chup rahenge (If you do it, it’s not like we’d remain quiet),"Jurel added.
Jaiswal is a regular in the Indian Test team, but is trying to make a space for himself in Indian white-ball teams, despite scoring centuries in both ODI and T20I formats.
