PCB sacked 7 players and 2 coaches immediately after losing the first two Tests in England.
The PCB's decision to send seven Pakistani players and two coaches back from England following losses in Headingley and Lord's infuriated fans and experts worldwide.
For the third Test in Birmingham, which starts on September 9, Test coach Sarfaraz Ahmed was replaced by Mike Hesson, and players including Mohammad Rizwan, Salman Ali Agha, and Imam-ul-Haq received marching orders.
On live television, Aaqib Javed, the PCB's director of high performance, also criticized Imam and questioned his dedication to the team. On the first day of the Lord's Test, the left-handed opening batsman was sidelined due to a calf issue.
In addition to not batting for the team in either of the innings, the senior batter's actions on the fourth day have also drawn criticism.
Imam was observed knocking prior to the start of play on the fourth day, raising more concerns about the severity of his injuries. Stuart Broad, a former England pacer, famously said that it was all "for show."
Nasser Hussain said that Pakistan has become a laughingstock with the latest antics of the PCB and its chief, Mohsin Naqvi.
“I don't think after Headingley that the world was laughing at Pakistan. My rant at Lord's about them not fighting back, about the India vs. Pakistan games being very one-sided, and about them playing poorly wasn't laughing at them. It was out of frustration seeing where this great cricketing nation is now. What they have done now is make them a laughing stock. They have made it worse,” Hussain stated on the Sky Sports Cricket Podcast.
Hussain also shared his views on the Imam-ul-Haq situation and sympathized with him, saying he couldn’t believe how a PCB director of cricket threw his own player under the bus.
“I cannot believe how a director of high performance can go on telly, rightly or wrongly, and throw a player under the bus. He is either injured, or he is not. For every other touring side, if we ask how a player is doing, they would say, 'he has had a scan and will only bat if needed'. The whole handling of the Imam situation is ridiculous. You have to protect your players a little bit,” Hussain concluded.
The third and final Test between England and Pakistan will be played in Birmingham from September 9 onwards.
