PCB advertised opening for fielding coach on LinkedIn after Shane McDermott's departure.
PCB and the Pakistan team have been in focus lately, given the poor performance in the recent Test tour of England. England won the first Test in Leeds by an innings and 103 runs and then won a rain-hit second Test at Lord’s by 194 runs and went 2-0 up in the three-match series.
As a result, PCB called back seven players from the Pakistan squad back home and also sacked head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed and bowling coach Umar Gul. They have called in seven new players, with five of them yet to play Test cricket.
Amid the chaos, the PCB announced that, after Shane McDermott's employment ended last week, it is looking for a new fielding coach for the men's senior squad. The board officially opened applications for the position on LinkedIn, and the chosen applicant will be in charge of the national side in all formats.
"The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is seeking an experienced and skilled fielding coach to join the Pakistan Men's National Cricket Team. The Fielding Coach will play a crucial role in developing and enhancing the fielding skills of Pakistan National Team players," PCB's LinkedIn post read.
Fans and former cricket players ridiculed the PCB's decision on social media as a result of the action. Jos Buttler, an England batsman and wicketkeeper, expressed his amusement at the development. Additionally, he recommended that England should follow the PCB's lead and use a similar approach going forward.
"I was trying to defend it. Pakistan has gone to a very traditional and modern tactic in the recruitment of their new fielding coach and has placed an advert on LinkedIn. All teams have to advertise jobs in this day and age, so maybe England does the same. I don't know," said Buttler on the 'For The Love Of Cricket' podcast, along with Stuart Broad.
