Sooryavanshi hit 7 fours and 7 sixes in his 81-ball knock.
Ishan Kishan, East Zone captain, won the toss and chose to bowl first. Rinku Singh made 60 and Aryan Juyal made 46 as Central Zone made 266 runs. Mukesh Kumar and Abhijit Sarkar picked three wickets each, while Mohammad Shami and Mohammad Kounain Quraishi picked two wickets apiece.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who had only scored 8 runs in the first game for the East Zone, was expected to perform much better, given the amazing talent he possesses.
Sooryavanshi proved his talent and became the youngest player to make a fifty in Duleep Trophy history, against Central Zone in the quarterfinal at the BCCI Centre of Excellence Ground 1 in Bengaluru. At 15 years and 157 days old, he hit a six against Saransh Jain to reach the 50-run milestone in just 42 balls.
After being dropped on 40, Sooryavanshi hammered boundaries all over the park, making the bowlers in the Central Zone struggle. He entered the nineties by hitting Saransh Jain, who made his India Test debut against Sri Lanka last week, for a four and a six while batting on 81.
However, before he could achieve his dream of scoring a century in the Duleep Trophy, Sooryavanshi's extravagant shot play proved to be his downfall. He tried to hit Harsh Dubey for a six but was caught at the boundary by Arshad Khan, finishing on 92 in 81 balls with 7 fours and 7 sixes.
Sooryavanshi had added 161 runs for the first innings with Abhimanyu Easwaran, who also hit a half-century. Sooryavanshi hit a fifty at the age of 15 years and 157 days, becoming the youngest to score a fifty in the Duleep Trophy tournament.
The previous record was set by Laxman Singh in 1969, when he scored a fifty at the age of 16 years and 23 days. Piyush Chawla later became the second-youngest, surpassing the half-century mark at 16 years and 307 days in 2005.
Sooryavanshi had another piece of history in his grasp. A century would have made him the Duleep Trophy's youngest centurion, breaking Sachin Tendulkar's 36-year-old record established in the 1990/91 season at the age of 17 years and 262 days.
