Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is the vice-captain for East Zone in Duleep Trophy 2026.
Sooryavanshi, the vice-captain of the East Zone team, took over captaincy duties in the 19th over of the Central Zone innings, after captain Ishan Kishan suffered a wrist injury while keeping wickets. Kumar Kushagra took over the keeping duties, as Kishan left the field to get treated. He returned after some time with his wrist taped up.
Sooryavanshi showed his captaincy skills as he nailed a close DRS call. In the 40th over, Sooryavanshi requested a DRS review after fast bowler Mukesh Kumar persuaded him to contest a caught-behind appeal that had been denied.
Fielding at slip, Sooryavanshi was among those who believed Central Zone batter Aryan Juyal had edged the length delivery. When the on-field umpire remained unmoved, the youngster requested a review with just 3 seconds remaining on the clock and forwarded the judgment upward.
Much to the satisfaction of the East Zone's stand-in captain and Mukesh, the replays revealed a distinct spike on the UltraEdge as the ball passed the bat, indicating an edge.
Sooryavanshi was thrilled as his gamble on the DRS review helped his team take a wicket and gave priceless reactions while celebrating with his teammates. The on-air commentator also praised the youngster for staying switched on, noting that he had not heard anything on the stump microphone.
