Sulaiman and Kasim Khan spoke about atrocities committed on their father Imran Khan in prison.
The brothers expressed concern for their father's welfare and questioned Imran's treatment while inside in an interview with former England captain Michael Atherton.
Kasim and Sulaiman talked extensively about their father, who has been incarcerated in Pakistan for almost three years, and how things are getting worse for him.
According to Kasim, Imran has lost over 80% of his vision in one eye, and the former Pakistan captain has been spotted wearing an eye patch lately.
The brothers further said that Imran has little access to literature and other necessities and spends more than 23 hours a day alone in a tiny cell. Additionally, they said that the cell does not have air conditioning in the heat.
"They are acting without any strategy. It is not very clear what the guards are doing; they seem to be blatantly trying to kill him. Keep him in as long as possible, and silence him. The last time he was able to speak to our aunties and anyone else, he said the conditions have severely worsened recently. He has been relating it to other political prisoners who have been killed or who have died in prison. Right now, it is worse than ever, completely isolating him more than 23 hours a day in a cell," Kasim said in the interview for Sky Sports with Michael Atherton, which was aired during the lunch break of the second Test between England and Pakistan at Lord's on Thursday.
“Right now, it’s really crucial for us that he gets proper treatment. He had an eye patch on for the eye situation and seemed visibly stressed, and that is very hard for us to imagine because he embodies a very calm, assured presence every time I have ever seen him, including being at gunpoint. A car we were in was robbed, and he was the calmest person there, including the robbers," he added.
The brother also revealed that they have been trying hard to visit Imran Khan in prison in Pakistan. They claimed that their visas have been rejected or blocked on “technical grounds." The brothers stated that they were willing to take the chance of going to Pakistan to visit their father, despite worries that they would be arrested.
“We were cautiously optimistic. Our fears were confirmed when, instead of being taken to the private hospital, where he was meant to be taken, he was just taken to a government medical facility for a few hours and then taken straight back to jail.
In reality, it was an hour-long check-up by government officials who said, ‘Great, he’s OK,' and then said we will now send him to the independent hospital, Shifa. Instead, they left all the doctors waiting, our auntie waiting, who is a doctor, and sent him straight back to jail,” Sulaiman said.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) filed a formal complaint with Sky Sports regarding the broadcast after the interview sparked a significant controversy.
Although the squad eventually resumed play, reports also said that the PCB thought about telling Pakistan's players not to return to the field after lunch if the interview was broadcast.
