East Zone vice-captain Vaibhav Sooryavanshi might not have done much with the bat in the ongoing Duleep Trophy 2026-27 game against the North East Zone at the BCCI CoE Ground 2 in Bengaluru.

East Zone batted first and posted 467 runs thanks to 146 by Sudip Kumar Gharami and 167 by Shahbaz Ahmed. In response, NE Zone managed 111 runs in their first innings, with Abhijit Sarkar taking five wickets. Sooryavanshi had fallen for 8 runs in 6 balls.

Asked to follow on, NE Zone were 102/8 in their second innings, with Anukul Roy taking 3 wickets. But the surprise was Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who picked two wickets in one over.

Vaibhav took his first wicket on the second ball of his second over, which coincided with the 28th over of North East Zone's second innings. Kishan Lyngdoh was caught by Denish Das, a substitute fielder, while attempting a big hit against the left-arm spinner.

Imliwati Lemtur reached the crease following Kishan's departure and opened his account with a four off the opening delivery. But then Lemtur was caught behind on the fifth ball in the same over by Ishan Kishan.
