Moises Henriques played 44 international matches for Australia before moving to Portugal.
After representing Australia 44 times across formats between 2009 and 2021, the veteran all-rounder recently switched his allegiance to Portugal and was instantly named captain for their World Cup qualification campaign.
Born in Funchal on the Portuguese island of Madeira, Henriques moved to Australia as a child and completed the entire Australian pathway. He captained Australia at the 2006 Under-19 World Cup before going on to play four Tests, 16 One-Day Internationals, and 24 T20Is for the senior national team. His final appearance in Australia was in 2021.
His Australian domestic career lasted more than two decades before he called time on his New South Wales and Sydney Sixers commitments in July.
Henriques walked in at no.3 after Portugal lost their first wicket on the first ball of the innings. He batted aggressively from the start and hammered 111 off just 51 deliveries, including 12 boundaries and seven sixes.
His strong knock moved Portugal to 211/6 before rain intervened, and the hosts finally secured a 91-run victory using the Duckworth-Lewis system. This century was Henriques' first century in the T20I format.
The result gave Portugal their fourth consecutive victory of the tournament and kept their hopes of reaching the 2028 ICC Men's T20 World Cup firmly alive.
