Australia made 198 in their first innings and Bangladesh replied with 426 runs in 1st Test.
The ongoing first Test between Australia and Bangladesh, being played in Darwin, has reached an interesting point after both teams have completed one innings each. Australia was bundled out for 198 runs in its first innings after choosing to bat first.
In response, thanks to a century by Tanzid Hasan and half-centuries by Najmul Hossain Shanto (84) and Mehidy Hasan Miraz (65), Bangladesh posted 426 runs. Josh Hazlewood took six wickets for Australia.
Then Australia didn’t have a very good start to their second innings as well. Jake Weatherald got out for a duck, and Travis Head followed soon, hitting 17 runs off 35 balls. Weatherald and Head were both bowled by Hasan Mahmud.
Head was in so much distress as he chopped on a shortish delivery by Mahmud onto his own stumps. He leaned onto his bat in disappointment before picking up the bail and setting it up on the stumps again, before he began his walk back to the pavilion.
Head’s gesture was so out of the ordinary that Adam Gilchrist, who was on commentary, couldn’t believe the sight he was seeing.
“Chopped on! Hasan Mahmud gets the job done again. It's the angled bat of Travis Head. This is extraordinary; I've never seen that in all my cricketing career. A batsman so disappointed, but turns around and sets the stumps back up," Gilchrist said on Fox commentary.
