The ICC World Cup 2027 will be played in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.
Rishabh Pant, Sanju Samson, Mohammed Shami, and Washington Sundar were not on former India spinner R Ashwin's list of players who would make it in Team India’s squad for the 2027 ICC Men's ODI World Cup.
Additionally, Ashwin believes that it is also likely that Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Abhishek Sharma, Shivam Dube, Gurnoor Brar, Prince Yadav, and Ravi Bishnoi will be included in India's squad for the ICC event the following year. This World Cup will be played in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia in October-November.
Ashwin classified Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ravindra Jadeja, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Arshdeep Singh, and Prasidh Krishna as "maybe."
According to Ashwin, who appeared in a video for Cricinfo, the Indian team for the 2027 ODI World Cup should include Shubman Gill, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Jasprit Bumrah, Axar Patel, Harshit Rana, Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav, and Hardik Pandya. He supported Ishan Kishan for the position of second wicketkeeper-batter.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar, an out-of-favor bowler who hasn't played an ODI for India since January 2022, was one of the greatest surprises in Ashwin's selection. India will require Bhuvneshwar's experience at the 50-over tournament the following year, Ashwin emphasized.
He also stated that he would personally encourage the seasoned pacer to participate in every available tournament to prepare for the big event.
“Bhuvneshwar Kumar is a yes. I would communicate to him, get him to play all the tournaments – first-class cricket, the Vijay Hazare Trophy, everything. And get him primed going to South Africa. I think we would need him there," Ashwin said.
