India handed a 38-run loss to hosts Sri Lanka in the first T20I on Sunday (25 July).
After winning the three-match ODI series comfortably 2-1, Indians were off to a great start in the three-match T20I series as well. India continued from where they left off in the ODIs and began the T20 series with a win to their name.
Opting to bowl first, Sri Lanka managed to pick few early wickets, but the in-form right-hand batsman Suryakumar Yadav (50) along with Indian skipper Shikhar Dhawan (46) bailed India out of trouble and took the team to 164/5 in their quota of 20 overs.

Then Bhuvneshwar Kumar's 4/22, Deepak Chahar's 2/24, and one wicket each by Yuzvendra Chahal, debutant Varun Chakravarthy, and the Pandya brothers kept Sri Lanka to 126/5 and earned India a 38-run win in the first match.
While fans and pundits were praising the tourists for their amazing win which was a complete all-round performance from Shikhar Dhawan and Co, even the Men in Blue players expressed their thoughts and lauded each other for a fantastic start to the three-match T20I series on social media.
