In international cricket, playing the national anthems of both the participating teams before the start of the match has become an endearing tradition. As the three-match T20I series between Sri Lanka and India got underway in Colombo on Sunday (25 July), the ritual of playing national anthems was followed.

India's national anthem was played first as they are the touring side and it gave goosebumps not only to the players, but also to the fans watching at home. Same was the case at former India cricketers Irfan Pathan and his brother Yusuf Pathan’s household on Sunday.

As far as India are concerned, despite losing some early wickets, batsman Suryakumar Yadav (50) and skipper Shikhar Dhawan (46) steadied the ship and Ishan Kishan’s cameo of 20* runs off 14 deliveries at the end took India to 164/5 in their quota of 20 overs.

After batsmen, bowlers stepped up to the task as Chahal, Chakravarthy, Hardik and Krunal Pandya picked one wicket each with Deepak Chahar picking two wickets along with India’s vice-captain Bhuvneshwar Kumar picking 4-22 as the Men in Blue handed Sri Lanka a 38-run loss.
