India took an unassailable lead of 2-0 in the series with a win in second ODI.
India took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match ODI series with a win in the second ODI a the R Premadasa Stadium on Tuesday (July 20). They also extended their winning streak to 10 ODI matches in Sri Lanka.
India won the match by 7 wickets after chasing down 276 runs in 49.1 overs. After Suryakumar Yadav's 44-ball 53, Deepak Chahar remained unbeaten on 69 off 82 balls while Krunal Pandya added 35 runs.
It was the partnership between Chahar and Bhuvneshwar Kumar (19*) which took India home despite a shaky start of the run-chase. They added 84 runs for the 8th wicket and ensured a series win.
For Sri Lanka, Wanindu Hasaranga was the bowler who gave them a chance in the match by picking three wickets for 37 runs. Earlier, the hosts scored 275/9 after winning the toss and batting first. Opener Avishka Fernando contributed 50 off 71 balls, while Charith Asalanka top-scored with 65 off 68 deliveries.
After the win, Indian cricketers took to Twitter and lauded the team effort which sealed the series for India. They also mentioned the star performer Chahar for his all-round show which got him the Man of the Match award.
Chahar himself expressed how proud he felt to have won a crucial match for his country.
