The COVID-19 virus continues to wreak havoc on the Sri Lankan camp, as now a Sri Lanka cricketer tested positive for the deadly virus on Saturday (July 10) ahead of the limited-overs series against India.

After Sri Lanka batting coach Grant Flower and team analyst G T Niroshan, Sandun Weerakkody has also tested positive for the COVID-19. The batsman was in a bio-bubble at Cinnamon Grand in Colombo.

Weerakkody has recently joined the bio-bubble in Colombo as a preparation for the upcoming white-ball series comprising three ODIs and as many as T20Is and was later sent to Dambulla on Friday (July 9) along with Bhanuka Rajapaksa and several other cricketers to play a practice game before India series.

According to Newswire.lk, Weerakkody was with the 15 senior Sri Lankan cricketers who were training in Colombo while staying at the Cinnamon Grand Hotel.

The squad staying at Cinnamon Grand also includes Sri Lankan players like Asela Gunaratne, Angelo Perera, and Bhanuka Rajapaksa staying at Cinnamon Grand with Weerakkody and now all of them will now have to undergo quarantine.

Weerakkody was staying in a separate bubble of 13 players while there is another group of 26 cricketers putting up in a separate bubble in Dambulla, but they are all fine.

Noteworthy, the six-match limited-overs series between Sri Lanka and India was on Saturday rescheduled as per reports with the first ODI starting on July 18 instead of July 13.
