VVS Laxman also lauded Suryakumar Yadav for his rollicking debut against England.
Former India cricketer VVS Laxman has backed India batsman Suryakumar Yadav to be included in the Indian squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2021.
Suryakumar is part of India’s white-ball squad which will play six limited-overs matches against Sri Lanka. The Shikhar Dhawan-led team will play three ODIs and three T20Is against the hosts, with R Premadasa International Stadium in Colombo being the venue for all matches.
With T20 World Cup 2021 ahead, Suryakumar Yadav will look to cement his place in the Indian side on the tour of Sri Lanka. The swashbuckling batsman had made his India debut in the T20I series against England, earlier this year impressed everyone as he scored runs quickly, notching up 89 runs in the two games at an exceptional strike rate of 185.41.
With just a few days left for the first match between Sri Lanka and India, former Indian player VVS Laxman said that it is a great opportunity for Suryakumar Yadav as he can book a spot in the Indian squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
He backed the batsman to play all the six games during the tour and gain the confidence of scoring runs at the international level.
"This is a great opportunity. I just want him [Yadav] to play all the 6 matches, 3 ODIs, and 3 T20Is because he is someone who can definitely walk into the T20 World Cup squad, as far as I am concerned. So I just want him to go and gain the confidence of scoring runs even at the international level," VVS Laxman told Stars Sports.
VVS Laxman further lauded Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan, once again calling attention to the former's rollicking debut against England.
"Both of them [Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan] capitalized those opportunities. I was really excited the way Suryakumar Yadav batted at No.3.
"The kind of freedom, the first scoring shot in international cricket and that too against a quality fast bowler like Jofra Archer, to hit him for a six over fine-leg shows the kind of confidence and the skill and the talent he possesses,” he said.
The ODIs between Sri Lanka and India will take place on July 13, 16, and 18, while the T20Is will be played on July 21, 23, and 25.
