The incident happened during the 14th over of India’s innings in the second ODI.
Cricket fans witnessed a fierce contest between bat and ball in the first 25 overs of the match, but it was a comical mix-up between stand-in skipper KL Rahul and wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant that caught everyone’s attention.
During the 14th over of India’s innings, Pant worked Keshav Maharaj’s delivery to midwicket and took a couple of steps down before changing his mind. On the other hand, Rahul didn’t take a step back and continued for the run and reached the striker’s end.
Luckily for the visitors, Maharaj failed to collect the throw by Temba Bavuma and as a result, Rahul escaped an easy run-out.
After realizing that the ball is nowhere close to the stumps, Rahul ran back to make his ground at the non-striker’s end.

The missed opportunity proved to be costly for South Africa as the duo of Pant and Rahul went on to add 50 runs for the third wicket. India were on 141/2 after 25 overs with Pant and Rahul unbeaten on 55 and 45 respectively.
