Sunil Gavaskar wants India to win maiden Test series in South Africa.
Former Indian captain and commentator Sunil Gavaskar on Wednesday (January 5) said that winning the second Test against South Africa at Johannesburg would be a fantastic birthday present to one of the greatest cricketers, Kapil Dev.
At the moment, South Africa is 122 runs away from leveling the ongoing three-match Test series at 1-1, while Team India needs eight wickets to win the second Test at Johannesburg and take an unassailable 2-0 lead and win their maiden Test series win in the rainbow nation.
However, South Africa is currently looking in a good position to win the second Test, but the legendary Gavaskar urged the Indian team to win the ongoing match for Kapil Dev, who is celebrating his 63rd birthday today on January 6.

Gavaskar said during the lunch interval of Day 3 on SuperSport: “India has never won a series here. In fact, India has won very few Test matches here. The last time India came here in 2018, they won the one-day series but they lost the Test series 2-1. So this is going to be huge for India.”
He signed off by saying, “And the way I look at it is, I mean, weather permitting… tomorrow happens to be the birthday in my view of India’s greatest cricketer – Kapil Dev. So I think it will be a wonderful gift for Kapil from this Indian team. There are many admirers of Kapil Dev in this team. So from this team to Kapil Dev, that will be a fantastic present.”
