India won the first Test by 113 runs and went 1-0 up in 3-Test series.
Set 305 runs to win the match, South Africa resumed day five on 94/4 and despite a valiant 77 from captain Dean Elgar and 35* from Temba Bavuma, the home side was bundled out for 197 runs as India registered a 113-run win in Centurion Test.
With this India became the first Asian side to win a Test match at Supersport Park. Mohammad Shami and Jasprit Bumrah picked three wickets each, while R Ashwin and Mohammed Siraj took two each.
KL Rahul was named the Player of the Match for his 123 in the first innings and Ravi Shastri was all praises for a great team effort that has put India on course for a possible first Test series win in South Africa.
“Wohoo Brisbane, Oval, Lord’s and now Centurion…Congratulations @imVkohli , Rahul Dravid and the entire contingent on becoming the first Asian nation to win at Centurion #BoxingDayTest #TeamIndia,” Shastri tweeted.
Apart from Shastri, India batting legend Sachin Tendulkar also took to twitter and lauded Team India’s performance.
He said: “Superb bowling by an attack that can pick 20 wickets in a Test match anywhere in the world. Congratulations to #TeamIndia on a convincing victory!”
