Former Indian cricketer-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra has expressed his concerns over India’s batting collapses after the tourists were bundled out for 327 despite being 272 for 3 at stumps on Day 1 of the ongoing Boxing Day Test against South Africa in Centurion.
The Indian cricket team had a great start and was truly in control on the opening day of the ongoing Boxing Day Test against South Africa, but they suddenly lost the momentum, losing 7 wickets for just 55 runs to go from 272/3 to 327 all-out, which left many worried, including Chopra.
However, Team India had already put a considerable total on the board following the dramatic collapse in the morning session, and then the bowlers did a fantastic job by restricting South Africa to 197 in the first innings of the ongoing first Test of the three-match Test series in Centurion.
At the moment, India is leading by 209 runs with 7 wickets in hand, having lost three wickets for 54 runs against South Africa in the ongoing Boxing Day Test in Centurion.
Referring to India's 36-all out collapse in Adelaide and then 78-all out in Leeds, the cricket analyst has insisted that India needs to find solutions to the batting collapses.
Chopra said on his YouTube channel, “India's batting collapses, it is happening everywhere. This has been a slight issue. If you are 272 for 3 and are then bowled out for 327, it means 55 for 7 - not good enough, honestly not good enough and that's a big question.”
He further explained, “It happened in Adelaide as well, they got all out for 36. It happened in Leeds also, we were all out for 78. We collapsed in Kanpur also. England also got all out for 68, collapses are happening everywhere but we have to look at ourselves, how we can improve.”
Chopra signed off by saying, “If the Indian team is lacking something at the moment, because we are the best team in the world and want to become the best always, then for that these collapses, we will have to stem the rot. We will have to somehow stop these collapses.”
