Malik received his maiden T20I cap making him the 98th player to appear for India in the format.
The right-arm tearaway pace bowler was one of the highlights of the IPL 2022 as he bowled at the speed of the wind and impressed everyone with his abilities with the ball. He picked a four-fer and a fifer in the tournament, ending up with 22 wickets for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
This led to him being included in the home T20I series against South Africa, but unfortunately, he didn’t get a chance to play as the series ended up in a 2-2 draw.
Ahead of the first T20I against Ireland, many pundits had put their money on Umran Malik making his India debut and they were right, as veteran Bhuvneshwar Kumar handed him his T20I India cap no. 98.
