Indian batter Suryakumar Yadav on Sunday (20th February) said that it was important for him to stay till the end and take the team to a defendable total in the third T20I against West Indies in Kolkata.

Suryakumar Yadav stole the show with the bat in the final T20I against the West Indies. The right-hander steered his team out of trouble after they lost early wickets. Batting at No.5, the Mumbaikar came out all guns blazing and smashed his fourth T20I fifty.

Yadav was at his rampaging best and smashed seven sixes and one four in his 65-run knock. He along with all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer stitched a 91-run partnership for the 5th wicket to help India post a total of 184/5 runs on the board after a sloppy start and eventually win the match by 17 runs.

Suryakumar Yadav ended the series as the second-highest run-getter with 107 runs to his name. The right-hander was named as the Player of the Match in the third T20I and was also awarded the Player of Series.

Speaking at the post-match presentation, Suryakumar Yadav said that he wanted to replicate what he did in the first game and it was important for him to stay till the end and take the team to a decent total.

He revealed that they had a long chat in a team meeting on how they should react under immense pressure and it came out well for them. He remarked that he’s trying the repeat the same things and is trying to stay till the end.

“Just wanted to replicate what I did in the first game. It was important to stay till the end when Rohit got out and get the team to a defendable total. We had a long chat in the team meeting as to how we are going to react under immense pressure and it came out very well.

“I’m just trying to repeat the same things which I have been doing in the last few games… whenever the situation arrives, I try to stay there till the end,” Suryakumar Yadav said.

Suryakumar Yadav further said that he tries to keep things simple and is harsh on himself during the net sessions. He's excited about the next series.

“I just try to keep things simple. Being a little harsh on yourself in the nets, don’t hit every ball wildly, and have some quality sessions. Excited for the next series,” he said.

Suryakumar Yadav has been named in India’s 18-member squad for the upcoming T20 series against Sri Lanka, which will be played from 24th to 27th March.
