India keeper-batter Rishabh Pant played a huge role in India putting up a challenging total against West Indies in the second T20I in Kolkata on February 18, 2022. West Indies captain Kieron Pollard, in his 100th T20I, won the toss and chose to bowl first.

India went in unchanged for this match, while West Indies welcomed Jason Holder back in place of Fabien Allen.

Ishan Kishan’s struggles on the Kolkata pitch continued as he managed just 2 runs in 10 balls, while Rohit Sharma was looking good, but failed to capitalize on his 19 runs. Suryakumar Yadav made 8 runs, despite looking in good touch, but it was Virat Kohli, who laid a good platform for others to tee off.

He made 52 in 41 balls with 7 fours and 1 six, before being foxed and clean bowled by Roston Chase.

Then Rishabh Pant and Venkatesh Iyer came together and launched the Indian innings towards a very good total on a sluggish pitch. The duo added 76 runs for the fifth wicket in the last 6 or so overs.

Iyer made 33 in 18 balls before getting out in the last over, while Pant continued and made 52* in 28 balls with 7 fours and one six. India finished with 186/5 in 20 overs. Roston Chase took 3/25 for West Indies.

That one six by Rishabh Pant will be etched in the minds of Indian team fans, as he flicked a full toss from Jason Holder without moving his feet from his stance, and sending the ball into the stratosphere almost one-handed.

The shot was so awesome that even Rohit Sharma, the skipper couldn’t help but admire the six, as he watched the ball sail into the stands.
