Gaikwad was one of the four India players to test covid positive ahead of the ODIs.
Indian batter Ruturaj Gaikwad has completed his recovery from COVID-19 after testing positive for the virus on February 1 in Ahmedabad. He was put in isolation along with Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer and reserve seamer Navdeep Saini who also tested positive around the same date. All four have recovered are now allowed to train.
India took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the ODI series against West Indies after winning the second match by 44 runs on Wednesday (February 9).
Gaikwad is unlikely to be in contention for the final ODI with Dhawan set to open the innings with captain Rohit Sharma, who hinted at the possibility of reuniting with his long-term partner at the top.
Since he is not named in the T20 squad, Gaikwad will now likely join his state team Maharashtra for their Ranji Trophy campaign which starts on February 17, before joining his IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in March.
The prolific opener won the Orange Cap in IPL 2021 in CSK's victorious campaign scoring over 600 runs, which resulted in the franchise retaining him ahead of the mega auction for the 2022 season. He also made his T20I debut for India in Sri Lanka last year.
