He also highlighted the importance of fans in India's remarkable journey.
The three-match ODI series between India and West Indies is all set to get underway at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on February 6. With this ODI series, Rohit Sharma will begin his stint as India's full-time limited-overs captain on Sunday in Ahmedabad.
The first ODI match to be played on February 6 will be India’s 1000th ODI, and Team India will become the first team in the world to play 1000 one-day international matches.
Ahead of this historic 1000th ODI match against the West Indies, Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar has expressed happiness over this big achievement, terming the feat a "huge milestone" for the entire nation, as well as the Rohit Sharma-led Indian cricket team.
Tendulkar also wished the Indian cricket team for their 1000th ODI match. He also recalled India's very first ODI in 1974, and lauded former and present players for their service to the nation in the game, as well as highlighting the importance of fans in the team’s cricketing journey. He further mentioned that this achievement has been possible only because of past and present cricketers, past and present members of the BCCI, as well as the support of the ardent Indian cricket fans.
Tendulkar said on 100 MB: “India playing the 1000th ODI is a huge milestone. The first ODI was played in 1974, it was only possible because of the past cricketers, current cricketers, the past and current board members. And not to forget the most important people, our Indian cricket team well-wishers, from the past generations and the ones who are today with us.”
He signed off by saying, “I want to say it is an achievement for all of us and the entire nation should be proud of this and hope Indian cricket continues to grow from strength to strength. I wish them all the very best for the coming series and especially for the 1000th ODI.”
