Sri Lanka suffered a massive defeat of 317 runs while chasing 391 in the third ODI against India.
Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) is not pleased after Sri Lanka suffered a humiliating defeat by 317 runs in the third and final ODI against India in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday (January 15).
Sri Lanka failed to win a single match, as Team India clinched the three-match ODI series with a 3-0 margin after winning the final match by 317 runs in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday.
Following the embarrassing defeat, the SLC asked the team manager to submit a report on the same within five days to understand the reason behind the team’s dismal performance during the final ODI.
The SLC said in an official release on Monday (January 16): “Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has directed the Manager of the National Team to submit a report pertaining to Sri Lanka’s heavy defeat faced against India in the 3rd ODI, which was played on the 15th January 2023 at Thiruvananthapuram.”
The release further reads: “The report should consist of views of the Captain, the Head Coach, and the Selection Panel and also the Team Manager pertaining to the loss. SLC has requested the Team Manager to submit the ‘Report,’ within a 5-day period.
The report will enable Sri Lanka Cricket to review and understand the background to the team’s dismal performances during the final ODI, which it lost by 317 runs after being bowled out in 22 overs.”
Earlier, Sri Lankan skipper Dasun Shanaka said about the loss: “It’s disappointing. Not the game we would have wanted but it happens sometimes. Bowlers and batters both need to learn. How to pick wickets on these pitches and how to score runs.”
He signed off by saying, “Playing positive cricket is the key. If the boys showed intent, bowling will be different. While playing international cricket, we need to play with intent. I would like to congratulate Indian team for playing this level of cricket.”
