Suryakumar Yadav slammed his third century in the shortest format of the game.
The dashing right-hander came to the crease in the sixth over after the dismissal of Rahul Tripathi. Like always, he didn’t take much time and started attacking the opposition bowlers.
Surya stamped his authority in the match with a 26-ball half-century. After the milestone, he went berserk and took the Sri Lanka bowling apart with his dazzling strokeplay.
Yadav was involved in a 111-run partnership with Subman Gill, who was dismissed for 46 off 36 balls. After Gill’s wicket, the hosts lost skipper Hardik Pandya (4) and Deepak Hooda (4) cheaply but Suryakumar didn’t change his batting approach.
The Indian vice-captain brought up his century in the penultimate over off just 45 deliveries. It was his third ton in the shortest format of the game.
In the end, Suryakumar Yadav stayed unbeaten on 112 off 51 balls (7 fours and 9 sixes) and found an able partner in Akhar Patel (21* off 9 balls) to take India’s total to a mammoth 228/5 in 20 overs.
For his jaw-dropping knock in the series-decider, Suryakumar Yadav garnered rich praise from the cricket fraternity on Twitter.
