Current India batter Shreyas Iyer, on Tuesday, opened up on his thoughts on batting in T20Is. The 27-year-old, who was the Player of the Series in the recently concluded T20Is against Sri Lanka stated about his perception of the game, and how he thinks the 'intent' of a batter to be a decisive factor.

The middle-order batter admitted that even a single dot ball in the shortest format of the game puts extreme pressure on players. The batter has looked solid since his return to the national side against New Zealand last year after he had incurred a shoulder injury against England in March 2021 that ruled him out for months.

In an interview with The Times of India, the Mumbaikar said, "For every ball, you need to think about scoring. As a batsman, I feel if you play a dot ball, it's a crime. It takes a toll on the batsman. When you said about that West Indies team, with such a line-up that everybody comes up and smashes from the first ball, you really need to set up a great total on the board."

The newly appointed Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) skipper opened up on how he felt batting at No 3 and earning the Player of the Series award against Sri Lanka in the T20Is with three consecutive half-centuries and over 200 runs to his name.

Yeah, it felt very good. The start, which I got, was really amazing. I told myself I am just going to play with full freedom because now we have such depth in our batting line-up that it gives us more freedom to go and express ourselves. Even if we are a few runs down, the intent has to be very positive,” added Iyer.
