IND v SA 2022: South African cricket team arrives in Delhi for five-T20I series

The T20I series will get underway on June 9 in New Delhi.

The South African team on Thursday (June 2) landed in Delhi for a five-match T20I series against India, beginning June 9 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

KL Rahul will lead the Indian team in this series in the absence of Rohit Sharma, who has been rested along with senior members, including Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Shami.

Rishabh Pant has been named vice-captain of the team while Hardik Pandya and Dinesh Karthik are making their comeback to the national side.

A number of IPL performers have been rewarded a place in the Indian squad. Left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh has received his maiden call-up along with SRH’s pace sensation Umran Malik while the 18-member squad also features Avesh Khan, Ravi Bishnoi among others.

Temba Bavuma will lead the visiting team in the T20I series. The tourists will start their practice on June 3.

There will be no crowd restrictions and there will be no bio-bubble for the five-T20I series, though players will be tested regularly for COVID-19. Cuttack (June 12), Visakhapatnam (June 14), Rajkot (June 17), and Bengaluru (June 19) are the other venues for the series.

India and South Africa have faced each other in 15 T20Is so far. While India have won nine times, the Proteas have emerged victorious on six occasions.
