Rana has so far played 2 T20Is and one ODI for India.
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batter Nitish Rana on Sunday (22nd May) expressed his disappointment after not getting selected in the Indian squad for the T20I series against South Africa.
BCCI announced an 18-member squad for the upcoming five-match T20I series. With senior players being rested, there was an opportunity for youngsters including Arshdeep Singh and Umran Malik, who received their maiden call-ups, in the squad.
The squad will be led by KL Rahul with Rishabh Pant being his deputy and two senior players in Dinesh Karthik and Hardik Pandya were also recalled to the team. Some prominent names failed to make the cut despite their performances in the ongoing IPL 2022.
One among them was Nitish Rana. The southpaw had a decent outing in the IPL 15 and over the years has been displaying some quality performances for KKR. This year, he scored 361 runs at a strike rate of 143.82 with two half-centuries.
After the Indian squad for the South Africa series was revealed, Rana took to his official Twitter account and reacted as his name didn’t feature in the 18-member team.
“Things will change soon,” Nitish Rana tweeted.
Rana has played 91 matches in IPL so far and has scored a total of 2181 runs at an average of almost 28. The left-hander also represented India in two T20Is during the Sri Lanka tour last year but failed to set the stage on fire as he managed only 15 runs in two games.
