He was happy with his performance against New Zealand in the second Test.
India spinner Jayant Yadav said that bowling alongside the experienced R Ashwin was a great learning opportunity for him as the duo helped Team India defeat New Zealand by 372 runs in the second and final Test to clinch the series 1-0 on Monday (December 6).
Jayant (5) and Ashwin (8) picked a combined 13 wickets in the second Test against New Zealand to help India register their biggest victory in terms of runs in Tests as they won the second encounter by 372 runs on Monday at Wankhede Stadium.
Jayant struggled with the ball during New Zealand’s first innings, taking just one wicket, but learned from his mistakes to return with figures of 4/49 in the second innings to play his part in India’s massive win at the Wankhede stadium – where he had scored a century against England in 2016.
Jayant said after the match, “In the morning, the moisture in the wicket helped. You could see the difference between last evening and this morning, was getting much more bite. Was just important to get the ball in the right areas.”
On his performance for India in Mumbai so far, the spinner said: “Wankhede and Mumbai is special, the last Test here, I got a hundred. Missed out on a five-for here, but helped the team's cause.”
The spinner also said that it was useful to feed off Ashwin’s mind and great pick the brain of India’s third-highest wicket-taker in the longest format of the game.
Jayant signed off by saying, “It's useful to feed off Ashwin's mind, he thinks for the team in a different way, should always pick on thinking brains and add to your game. It's great learning for me.”
