The opener carried on the momentum from the first innings and scored a half-century (62) in the second innings to win the Player of the Match award after India won the Mumbai Test.

Ahead of this Test series, Mayank last played a Test for India on the Australia tour and he had to sit out of 10 consecutive Test matches. He had only scored 78 runs in 6 innings during Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2020-21, with the highest score of 38 runs.
