New Zealand’s Will Young became the butt of jokes on social media thanks to his honest mistake during the second innings of the ongoing first Test against India in Kanpur.

The Black Caps were set a target of 284 runs to chase after India’s second innings was declared at 234/7 by captain Ajinkya Rahane. Will Young and Tom Latham came out to open the innings with just under 30 minutes of play remaining and were hoping to go back to the pavilion without a loss of wicket.

However, Young failed to read a delivery from R Ashwin, who opened the bowling and was adjudged LBW by on-field umpire Virender Sharma. The flighted delivery from Ashwin in the final ball of the third over kept low and hit Young in his pads.

After being given out, Young discussed with Latham whether to take the DRS review or not, as the 15 second counter wounded down. However, just as the counter reached zero and the time for DRS review was up, Young made the T signal for the DRS, but India’s captain Ajinkya Rahane and bowler Ashwin made the umpire aware that the time was up.

Young dejectedly made his way back to the pavilion after making 2 runs and the Kiwis ended day 4 on 4/1. The replays showed that the ball was missing the stumps entirely and had Young taken the review in time, he would have been given not out.

His faux pas with the DRS review led to Twitterverse making memes and posting hilarious stuff on social media and here are some of the best.
