India opener Mayank Agarwal gave fans something to ponder about on the second day of the ongoing first Test against New Zealand at the Green Park in Kanpur, thanks to his unique way of fielding at slips.

As Indian bowlers struggled to dislodge Kiwi openers Will Young and Tom Latham, India captain Ajinkya Rahane employed an extra slip, with Mayank Agarwal taking the spot alongside Rahane, who was at the first slip.

However, taking a page from the English cricket playbook, Mayank Agarwal fielded on his knees at second slip.

It was first seen during the 47th over when Akshar Patel was into the attack. Mayank was spotted taking the position at slip and fielding on his knees and continued to do so for overs until Rahane kept the two slips in operation.

The tactic was first used by England veteran Marcus Trescothick when he had fielded on his knees at the same position during a county game for Somerset in 2017.

And then England captain Joe Root used the same tactic during the second day of the first Test against Sri Lanka earlier this year and also against New Zealand in a Test series.
