Former cricketer Virender Sehwag named five Indian young batters who should get a chance in the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand.

The New Zealand Cricket team is set to tour India for the T20I and the Test series in November and December.

The T20I series between the nations will kick start from 17th November in Jaipur followed by the second and the third T20I in Ranchi and Kolkata on 19th and 21st November respectively.

With T20 World Cup 2022 slated to take place in Australia next year, Virender Sehwag wants team management to groom young players and rest the main players for the home series against New Zealand.

Speaking on his show Virugiri on Facebook, Virender Sehwag said that Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, KL Rahul, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shreyas Iyer should be given chance and groomed for the next T20 World Cup as they are the future.

He added that senior players should be given rest for the series against New Zealand so that young players can gain some experience and prepare themselves for the next World Cup.

"Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, KL Rahul and perhaps in the next world cup Ruturaj Gaikwad could be there and also Shreyas Iyer as well. These players can be groomed and given opportunities because they are the future.

“So, the rest of the senior players can be given a break so that these players can play in the T20 series being played at home and gain some experience and prepare themselves for the next World Cup,” Virender Sehwag said.

Team India is currently playing ICC T20 World Cup 2021. They will next be seen in action when they take on Namibia on 8th November. The Virat Kohli-led side would also be hoping that Afghanistan beat New Zealand so that they can fancy their chances of qualifying for the semi-finals.
