Kishan and Gill added 224 runs for the third wicket, with both scoring centuries.
India and Afghanistan are clashing in the second ODI of the three-match series on June 17, 2026. This game is being played at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow, and sees India having a lead of 1-0, having won the first game in Dharamsala.
Afghanistan captain Hashmatullah Shahidi won the toss and decided to field first, since the black-soil pitch improves under lights.
Afghanistan made three changes, replacing Mohammad Nabi, Azmatullah Omarzai, and Ziaur Rahman with Bilal Sami and Darwish Rasooli, both of whom made their ODI debuts, as well as one extra player. Kuldeep Yadav and Yashasvi Jaiswal replaced Nitish Kumar Reddy, Harsh Dubey, and Prasidh Krishna, while Prince Yadav made their India ODI debut.
Yashasvi Jaiswal got out early, but Rohit Sharma (48) and Shubman Gill gave a solid platform for India, adding 87 runs for the second wicket. After Rohit’s dismissal at the hands of Rashid Khan, Ishan Kishan came out to bat at no.4, and Afghanistan witnessed the full force of the new-age India batting.
Kishan and Shubman Gill added 224 runs for the third wicket and went hard at the bowlers. Kishan was subdued a bit, reaching his fifty in 52 balls, while Gill made his fifty in 38 deliveries. But Kishan then broke loose and reached his century in just 71 balls.
Kishan reached the milestone, his second ODI century and first since his amazing 210 against Bangladesh in 2022. However, India captain Shubman Gill was the first to reach the century mark, in the same over, off just 77 balls.

Kishan fell for 125 runs with 14 fours and 7 sixes, and Gill made 154 before perishing, and India lost the plot a bit with wickets falling in regular intervals. KL Rahul scored a golden duck, and Shreyas Iyer made 26. A total that was threatening to go past the 450-mark barely reached the 400-run mark.
India made 402 runs. For Afghanistan, Nangeliya Kharote took 4/76, and Rashid Khan took three wickets.
