Nabi has joined the Indian squad as a net bowler ahead of the solitary Test against Afghanistan.
The Indian team management is assessing senior pacer Mohammed Siraj's workload for the one-off Test against Afghanistan, with a final decision expected within the next 48 hours, TOI reported.
According to the report, Siraj has already traveled to Chandigarh for this solitary match, and if he is rested, Jammu & Kashmir seamer Auqib Nabi will replace him in the squad.
Sirah had a grueling IPL 2026 campaign with Gujarat Titans (GT), featuring in every game, including the title clash on May 31. The Titans were outclassed by Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the final at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium.
With Jasprit Bumrah already rested, decision-makers are cautious about putting too much pressure on a completely inexperienced pace attack.
If the Indian team management opts to rest Siraj at the last minute, uncapped Punjab pacer Gurnoor Brar is highly likely to make his international debut.
"Siraj has had a long season and If he is rested, there is a bright possibility Gurnoor will play and Nabi will come into the squad," a source tracking developments told the publication.
Meanwhile, Nabi has joined the Indian squad as a net bowler ahead of the one-off Test against Afghanistan. He was the leading wicket-taker (60 scalps) in the 2025-26 Ranji Trophy season, playing a key role in Jammu & Kashmir’s maiden title win.
Along with Nabi, pacers Prince Yadav and Gurjapneet Singh, and spinners Saransh Jain, Zeeshan Ansari, and Shivang Kumar are assisting the Indian team in the net.
The solitary Test against Afghanistan will be followed by three ODIs in Dharamsala (June 13), Lucknow (June 17) and Chennai (June 2).
