Buttler's praise for Kohli came ahead of the ODI series between India and England.
England and India are all set to square off in a three-match ODI series, starting on Tuesday (July 14) at Edgbaston in Birmingham.
Ahead of the series opener, veteran England wicketkeeper Jos Buttler heaped praise on Indian batting stalwart Virat Kohli, calling him the "most recognisable cricketer in the world" while also acknowledging his monumental stature in the game.
He went on to add that English team eagerly looks forward to the challenge of competing against world-class players of Kohli's caliber.
“He’s obviously an absolute superstar, probably the most recognisable cricketer in the world… I don’t think words do justice to his stature in the game. And obviously his record, especially in this format of the game has been incredible,” Buttler said while speaking to ECB.
“It’s always great playing against the best players, and obviously he’s one of them. So it’s going to be a great challenge for us and we look forward to it,” Buttler further remarked.
Virat Kohli missed the ODI series against Afghanistan last month due to a hamstring injury sustained in the IPL 2026 final on May 31. Having cleared the fitness test, the star batter is all set to return to action with the England series.
Kohli enters the ODI series as one of India’s most experienced players alongside Rohit Sharma. While England swept the recent T20I series 4-0, India will look to turn things around in the 50-over leg of the tour.
