India are yet to win a T20I match in the ongoing UK tour.
India's unbeaten 16-series or tournaments streak in T20Is came to an end following consecutive setbacks against Ireland and England.
After suffering a whitewash in the two-T20I series against Ireland, the Men in Blue are trailing 0-2 in the ongoing five-match series versus England. The recent results have left former India skipper Sourav Ganguly surprised.
On Tuesday (July 7), the Shreyas Iyer-led side suffered a crushing 125-run defeat against England at Trent Bridge. This marked India’s biggest-ever T20I loss in terms of runs.
“I am a bit surprised by India's performances. They have been such a strong white-ball side, and this appears to be a temporary dip in form," Ganguly told reporters on the sidelines of his 54th birthday celebrations.
However, Ganguly backed to reigning T20 world champions to bounce back in the upcoming fixtures.
"They have not looked at their best, but India have plenty of quality players and I am sure they will bounce back. Their only option now is to level the series. Every good team goes through difficult phases and finds a way to recover,” he added.
Ganguly declined to comment on the omission of T20 World Cup 2026 hero Sanju Samson to accommodate teenage prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.
“That is a call for the team management (to make). It would not be appropriate for me to comment on it,” he stated.
The official first-look poster of Sourav Ganguly's biopic, 'Dada: The Sourav Ganguly Story', was launched on July 8. The date was intentionally selected to coincide with the legendary cricketer’s birthday.
National Award-winner Rajkummar Rao is stepping into the shoes of Ganguly. The unveiled visual features a cinematic recreation of Ganguly’s iconic shirtless celebration on the Lord's balcony following India's historic 2002 NatWest Series final victory against England.
“The poster has just been launched. I hope everyone watches the film when it releases next year,” Ganguly said.
Sourav Ganguly celebrated his special day with a low-key midnight cake-cutting ceremony at his residence. Because his daughter, Sana, was away in Barcelona, he connected with her via video call and expressed his gratitude to millions of fans for their overwhelming love, messages, and social media tributes.
“So many people have reached out, through phone calls, messages, and tweets. I would like to thank everyone for the love and respect they have shown me,” Ganguly said.
“Sana is in Barcelona and we are speaking over video call. When she is around, there is usually a bigger celebration; otherwise, it is a low-key affair at home.”
