Sooryavanshi made 14 runs in 10 balls before getting stumped off Will Jacks.
Maninder Singh, a former Team India spinner, says Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's shot to be dismissed on debut was due to nerves in the second T20I against England in Manchester. The 15-year-old was included in the Indian T20I team for the Ireland and England trips.
Sooryavanshi made his Team India debut against England, becoming the youngest Indian to do so after missing out on the playing 11 in the previous two T20Is against Ireland.
The southpaw started in his customary way, hitting two maximums off his first nine deliveries before being stumped by Jos Buttler off spinner Will Jacks.
"He should have been played in Ireland itself because of the rhythm he was in, the form he was in. If these failures had happened in the Ireland series, by the time he came here, he might have understood, and that nervousness would have gone.
Because of the way he played his shot, that was not Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's shot. That was a shot of nervousness. There will be nerves. Even the big players get nervous, and he is just a 15-year-old kid. He is playing with men; he is competing with men,” Maninder Singh told ANI.
Maninder Singh asked Indian cricket supporters to be patient with Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, even if the kid suffers difficulties at the beginning of his career.
"All Indian cricket lovers need to have patience because he is a talented cricketer. He is an impact player. Whenever he plays, he will create such an impact that he will win the match single-handedly. So I am not too worried. Because he is a brave player and white-ball cricket today is a game of the brave, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is one of them," said Maninder Singh.
Sooryavanshi is likely to be part of India XI when they clash with England in the third T20I in Nottingham on July 7.
