Teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was handed his debut India cap in the second T20I against England at Old Trafford on Saturday (July 4).

At 15 years and 99 days, the southpaw comfortably broke Sachin Tendulkar’s 36-year-old record to become India's youngest debutant in men's cricket. Tendulkar had made his national debut at the age of 16 years and 205 days.

After the game, England batter Jacob Bethell reflected on the unique experience of facing a competitor seven years junior to him. He also hailed the young prodigy’s bat swing and extraordinary talent.

“Yeah, it feels weird to say that I am playing against someone seven years younger than me," Bethell told reporters after starring in England’s four-wicket win over India in Manchester T20I. “I have watched him bat in India, watched him today – the swing and everything is pure. So, he’s an unbelievable talent."

Opening the innings, Sooryavanshi scored 14 runs off 10 balls on his India debut, hitting spectacular sixes off premier fast bowlers Jofra Archer and Josh Tongue.

Though the spotlight was initially on the teenager, it was Bethell who stole the show by smashing an unbeaten 76 runs off 46 balls to anchor England's successful chase of 191 with four wickets and an over to spare.

With this victory, the Three Lions took a 1-0 lead in the five-match series. The third T20I will be played at Trent Bridge on July 7.
