Virat Kohli has been out of action since injuring his hamstring during IPL 2026 final.
After suffering a hamstring injury during the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL 2026) final against the Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad, Indian batter Virat Kohli is making positive progress in his recuperation. Later this month, the former India skipper will undergo another evaluation.
The 37-year-old, who hopes to play international cricket again, is scheduled to report to the BCCI's Centre of Excellence (CoE) on June 22 for a reassessment and additional preparation.
With a packed schedule leading up to the ODI World Cup in South Africa next year, India is keeping an eye on the health of one of their most significant ODI players.
"Virat Kohli is progressing well following the right hamstring injury sustained in the IPL. He was assessed by the CoE team in London and handed over the programme to continue in the initial phase of rehab. He will report to the CoE on 22nd June 2026 for re-evaluation, further planning, and subsequent clearance,” a source told India Today.
Kohli was not picked for India’s ODI series at home against Afghanistan and was replaced by Yashasvi Jaiswal. There were concerns about his availability for the subsequent England ODI series, but recent updates have stated that Kohli is on track to attain full fitness.
Chief selector Ajit Agarkar had voiced confidence about Kohli's recuperation schedule when he was first ruled out of the Afghanistan series.
"With Virat, it's just been less than a week since he injured himself in the IPL final. We don't know the timelines yet. But it looks like he might be fit for that England one-day series. It's not a definitive answer, so don't hold me to it. I haven't had a clear timeline from the physio yet,” Agarkar had said while announcing India’s squad.
Kohli, despite retiring from T20Is and Tests, remains in prime form in ODIs, with 616 runs in his last seven ODI appearances at an astonishing average of 123.20, including three centuries. His record in England further highlights his value, with 1,349 runs from 33 ODIs in the country, including 12 fifties and a century.
