Kohli sustained a hamstring strain during the IPL 2026 final on May 31.
Virat Kohli is on track to return to the Indian team for the upcoming ODI series in England, starting July 14 in Birmingham, following a fast-tracked recovery from a right hamstring injury.
According to a TOI report, the veteran batter’s rehabilitation is progressing ahead of schedule, dispelling fears of an extended layoff.
Kohli is likely to check into the BCCI's Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru shortly for his official fitness assessment and selection clearance.
"Kohli has started his rehabilitation, and his injury is healing quickly. He is expected to report to the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence for his fitness assessment and clearance soon. If his recovery goes as planned, Kohli is expected to make his comeback to the team in the upcoming England series," the publication quoted a source as saying.
The BCCI selection committee is expected to announce the ODI squad for the England tour later this week.
"The selection committee meeting to pick India's ODI team for the England tour will be held in the next three to four days," BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia told TOI.
Virat Kohli sustained a distal semimembranosus tendon tear (hamstring strain) during his match-winning knock of 75 for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL 2026 final against Gujarat Titans on May 31.
As a result of the injury, Kohli was ruled out of the ongoing three-match ODI series against Afghanistan, with Yashasvi Jaiswal replacing him in the squad.
While announcing India's squads for the Afghanistan series earlier this month, BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar had stated that Kohli could return for the England ODIs but there was no definitive timeline from the physio.
"With Virat, it's just been less than a week since he injured himself in the IPL final. We don't know the timelines yet. But it looks like he might be fit for that England one-day series. It's not a definitive answer, so don't hold me to it. I haven't had a clear timeline from the physio yet," Agarkar had said.
Having retired from T20Is and Tests, Virat Kohli remains active only in the ODI format for India. His last appearance came in the home series against New Zealand in January 2026.
