Sooryavanshi took the cricketing world by storm with his dazzling exploits in the IPL 2026.
His campaign featured one hundred and an all-time record of 72 sixes. The 15-year-old made IPL history by sweeping five major individual awards, including the Orange Cap and Most Valuable Player (MVP).
Sooryavanshi’s breakout IPL season has drawn comparisons to generational talents like Sachin Tendulkar, and calls for his inclusion in the Indian T20I squad have also grown louder.
Former England pacer Steven Finn has also joined the bandwagon, admitting that while fitting the young prodigy into a world-champion opening line-up is a "tough call," his blistering form would undeniably strengthen the Indian side.
Speaking on the For the Love of Cricket podcast, Finn stated that he would love to see the teenager feature in an Indian shirt during the upcoming UK summer tour.
The Men in Blue are slated to play five T20Is and three ODIs on the tour of England from July 1 to July 19.
"I would love to see him in an Indian shirt in the UK summer. The problem is India is the world champions, and it'll be an incredibly tough call on those opening the batting now. Yet, whoever he replaces, he would make the team better," Finn said.
Sooryavanshi’s record-breaking run—anchoring his team into the playoffs while frequently dismantling the best bowlers in the world—left Finn in awe after the early promise he had shown.
"The question entering this season was if he could do it again and be consistent. The most staggering thing is that he struck at 236 across 700-plus runs against the best bowlers in the world. To sustain that for a full season as a 15-year-old is mind-blowing. He was the story of this IPL. And people say the yorker is his lone weakness. But that's so tough to execute with the new ball that if that's your only weakness, you would almost take that," Finn remarked.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has reportedly been included in India's 30-member probables list for the 2026 Asian Games.
When India’s squads for the one-off Test and three ODIs against Afghanistan Tests were announced last month, chief selector Ajit Agarkar acknowledged Sooryavanshi brilliance, but cited that several players were ahead of him in the pecking order.
“We picked him for the India A team because he is young and immensely promising. The idea is to give these youngsters exposure. Yashasvi Jaiswal is already part of the ODI set-up as well. As impressive as Sooryavanshi has been, there are others who have performed strongly too. We are very excited about him and hopefully he can showcase his talent when he travels with the A team,” Agarkar had said.
Subsequently, the selection committee picked Sooryavanshi in the India A squad for the 50-over matches against Sri Lanka later this month.
