Reece Topley turned out to be a nightmare for the Indian batters, as the pacer recorded the best bowling figures for England in ODI cricket to help the hosts to crush Team India by 100 runs in the second encounter at Lord’s on Thursday (July 14) to level series at 1-1.

Topley had a remarkable outing at Lord’s, returning with incredible figures of 6/24 in 9.5 overs, as India were bowled out for 146 while chasing 246 runs against England in the second ODI at Lord’s.

Topley said after winning the Player of the Match award that it is an honor to play for his country.

The 28-year-old pacer spent a lot of time away from the game due to back injuries, but now feels it makes it all worthwhile after he helped England hand India an embarrassing defeat at Lord’s.

Reece Topley said at the post-match presentation: “It means a lot, it makes it all worthwhile to be honest. It was a terrific team performance… Just happy that it came off. It (today) means a lot. It’s a big game at the weekend, try and wrap up the series. Hopefully, we do that, and whatever is next.”

He further added, “It is everyone’s dream to play for England. I just want to pull the shirt on as many times as I can and play my part. It is a privilege every time.”

Meanwhile, England’s limited-overs captain, Jos Buttler, admitted that his batters did not do well once again, but lauded Topley for his stunning performance and never-say-die attitude.

Buttler said at the post-match presentation: “He’s had quite an interesting story. For him to come back from that and to take 6/24 at Lord’s is an incredibly special performance.”

He signed off by saying, “It’s a tribute to his perseverance and his outlook on life and the game. He’s had really tough experiences, not knowing if he would play again, and that’s given him a real sense of perspective and a real enjoyment when he’s playing.”
