Vaughan feels Kohli's place isn't guaranteed at the moment for T20 World Cup 2022.
Former England captain Michael Vaughan said that the upcoming three-match ODI series between England and India will be crucial for struggling Virat Kohli, as he has already had a poor T20I series, where he made only 12 runs in two matches.
The spotlight will be once again on Kohli, who has been going through a rough patch with the bat for a long time now, in the upcoming ODI series against England, starting on July 12 (Tuesday), and Vaughan wants the right-hander to score runs consistently.
Michael Vaughan told Cricbuzz: “The pinnacle point in the series will be Virat. India needs Virat back to form. They need him scoring runs. Only a few years ago, we were saying he’s the greatest chaser in white-ball history. I’ve seen glimpses that he is not far off from real special innings. Hope we see it in the next series. Really want Virat scoring consistent runs.”
Meanwhile, the Indian cricket team management is looking to find the perfect combination for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2022, and Vaughan feels Kohli's poor form is a big concern for the Men in Blue.
He believes that new in-form players can replace Kohli if they keep putting on consistent performances and the former skipper continues to struggle with the bat in T20I cricket.
Vaughan signed off by saying, “It’s Virat Kohli that the big question mark is about. When he’s at his best, he gets in. But, there are going to be big question marks over Virat the next time he plays T20 cricket if these players keep producing the magic when they come into the side.”
